History
Oswego, NY, 1985. I was hanging around with my Millwright counterparts on the turbine deck (under construction) at the Nine Mile Two Nuclear Power Plant, during a downtime. They were sitting around with their Buck Knives and lapping compoundopening and closing them for hours so they would open easier. Their ultimate goal was to take them out of their leather sheath, flick their wrist and open the knife quickly. At the time this seemed like a lot of work and I thought that I should be able to design a fixture that would carry the knife for easy access and open a knife when removed.
I went to the Welding Fab Shop on the same site and two days later I went back to the Turbine Deck with my first attempt at the Jaybar opener to "show off" to my buddies. It was a love at first sight happening!
